Day sixteen of the Euro 2008 tournament saw the long awaited quarter-final between the exciting, young and in form Spain side and the dull, old and out of form Italians.
The game turned out to be a major disappointment for anyone other than the most fanatical connoisseur of the game who may possibly have squeezed some enjoyment out of the defensive qualities of the Italians. For the neutral fan, it was simply the most negative display that you could imagine and one that seemed designed to take the game to a penalty shoot-out.
The tactic worked, but Spain won the shoot-out which was probably for the good of football as a whole.
With the quarter-finals now completed it is time to look at who is HOT and who is NOT, so far in the competition. Have the award winners …
Recent history suggests the outcome of Croatia s World Cup Group F opener against Morocco on Wednesday will give a good indication as to how far they can go at Qatar 2022.
After all, Croatia have lost their opening match in three of their five appearances at the World Cup, and on those occasions they failed to get out of the group.
In the two exceptions, they found themselves among the last four, with Zlatko Dalic guiding Croatia all the way to the final four years ago, ultimately losing to France.
While they may have been a little Jekyll and Hyde in nature in the past, there is undoubtedly an underlying feeling of confidence ahead of the matchday one encounter with Morocco at Al Bayt Stadium, the scene of Qatar s 2-0 defeat to Ecuador on Sunday.

FIFA presidential candidate Sheikh Salman bin Ibrahim al-Khalifa has emphatically denied involvement in investigating and prosecuting athletes during democracy protests in Bahrain in 2011.
Sheikh Salman, president of the Asian Football Confederation, joined the race to replace outgoing FIFA boss Sepp Blatter prior to the Monday deadline for submissions for candidacy.
However, the former head of the Bahrain Football Association has faced criticism from human rights groups since announcing his intention to stand.
The 49-year-old is a member of Bahrain s royal family, who have been regularly condemned over allegations of oppression of pro-democratic demonstrations and the use of torture.
An article in British newspaper The Guardian cited a 2011 Bahrain…
Week 9 was one of the more unpredictable weeks in recent memory with huge upsets and a lot of head-scratching results. Underdogs went 7-6 straight up and reminded us how humbling betting a sport like this can be.
Here’s a look at my favorite parlay picks I’ll be targeting in Week 10.

The Green Bay Packers took Week 1 on the chin but get a chance to dismantle a divisional rival in the Chicago Bears at Lambeau Field Sunday night.
The Bears’ Week 1 victory over the 49ers isn’t moving the needle for me, and this Green Bay team under new offensive coordinator Adam Stenavich is going to lean on the run. It’s going to be A.J. Dillon who finishes with more touches in the Green Bay backfield.
Here are my free NFL player prop picks for Sunday Night Football between the Bears and Packers.

Two teams on opposite ends of the NFC food chain collide in Week 11 odds, with the Dallas Cowboys laying double figures when they visit the Carolina Panthers this Sunday.
The NFL odds have set Dallas as 10.5-point road chalk, marking the second straight week the Cowboys have been double-digit favorites. They made good as 17.5-point home faves in Week 10, blasting the New York Giants and improving favorites of -10 or higher to 8-2 ATS on the season.
Meanwhile, Carolina has just one win to its name at 1-8, and its record against the spread isn’t much prettier.
The Panthers enter Week 11 at 1-6-2 ATS but enjoyed a mini-bye after losing last Thursday. That means they could have some extra bodies back on defense in time to battle Dallas’ high-oct…
This year’s rendition of the Super Bowl features a litany of offensive playmakers on both sides, including San Francisco 49ers star wide-out Deebo Samuel. Samuel was the Niners’ undisputed top weapon two years ago, but with the addition of Christian McCaffrey and the ascent of Brandon Aiyuk, touches are harder to come by these days.
Still, with more competition for targets and a strong Chiefs pass defense in front of him, Samuel’s Super Bowl odds are a even a bit lower than usual. Does that make for betting value on taking the Over on his NFL odds? I let you know as I assess the Deebo Samuel odds and give my best NFL picks and predictions for Super Bowl LVIII on Sunday, February 11.For more Super Bowl predictions, be sure to check out Jason Logan’s 49e…
After an explosive start to the season, Derek Carr and the New Orleans Saints have now dropped two in a row and travel to take on Patrick Mahomes and the undefeated Kansas City Chiefs on Monday Night Football.
If Carr & Co. are to right the ship, I believe it will be Rashid Shaheed who contributes in a major way. My Saints vs. Chiefs predictions also see Mahomes leaning on Travis Kelce while continuing to force the issue downfield with Rashee Rice sidelined.

The big question on the mind grapes of college basketball fans this morning—after "Hey, what happened to the couch?"—is just how good was Tyler Hansbrough? Now that his career is over and he's got his national championship, everyone must now take a position on his relative worth as a college basketball player. The four-year senior seems like an endangered species these days and the four-year starter is an even more rare bird, so players like Psycho T are at the very least unique. But does longevity alone make him good? If he was truly the best college player of the last 20 years, why is he even still in college? One thing that people do seem to agree on, is that they don't like him. He's goofy looking, people like Dick Vitale won't stop praising him a…
