Busquets plans to end career at Barcelona

Sergio Busquets plans to end his career at Barcelona.

The Spain midfielder, a World Cup winner in 2010, came through Barcelona s academy and has racked up 500 appearances for the Catalan giants.

Busquets has won seven LaLiga titles, three Champions Leagues and three Club World Cups in that time, with Barca in contention for more silverware this term.

And the 30-year-old, who previously said he would leave Barca to play for Pep Guardiola at another club, is not considering following fellow midfielders Andres Iniesta and Xavi in departing Camp Nou towards the end of their careers.

I have never seen myself anywhere else, Busquets said to Diario Sport.  The Guardiola thing I said not because I saw myself anywhere else, but because I should have him in min…

Not a surprise ‘determined’ Ella Toone is in World Cup final – former PE teacher

England midfielder Ella Toone’s former PE teacher feels it is “not a surprise” that she has reached her first Women’s World Cup final after England beat Australia 3-1 on Wednesday.

Chris Nuttall, PE teacher at Fred Longworth High School in Tyldesley, Wigan, who taught Toone from Year 9 to Year 11, said he saw Toone’s potential at school and “could tell” she would achieve great success in football.

The teacher said it was a “surreal” experience watching Toone score the opening goal in the Sydney triumph, but felt her success was expected after she demonstrated strong sporting ability at school.

Nuttal, 38, told the PA news agency: “It’s surreal to see Ella play in the World Cup semi-final, but it’s brilliant now (England) have got through t…

Simeone: No update on Atletico contract

Diego Simeone insists there is nothing to talk about yet in relation to his new Atletico Madrid contract as he remains solely focused on the upcoming LaLiga match with Getafe.

Negotiations have reportedly been ongoing for months between Simeone and the Atleti hierarchy to extend his deal beyond 2020.

Simeone is expected to become the highest paid member at Atleti with the new terms, earning more than star forward Antoine Griezmann.

However, reports that an announcement would be made soon were played down by the Argentine at his pre-match media conference on Friday.

There is nothing to talk about yet, he said. I am just thinking of tomorrow s game when we will face Getafe, a team that is having an extraordinary season so far.

Simeone is the…

Neymar above everyone – Nene rues PSG star´s absence

Neymar is technically above everybody at Paris Saint-Germain according to Nene, who feels his fellow Brazilian can still achieve all his ambitions in Paris.

PSG travel to Manchester United for Tuesday s mouth-watering Champions League last-16 clash with their superstar forward sidelined due to a metatarsal injury.

Fellow attacker Edinson Cavani faces tests on a hip problem sustained during Saturday s Ligue 1 win over Bordeaux and Nene, who played for PSG between 2010 and 2013, feels such losses will be felt by head coach Thomas Tuchel.

It would have been beautiful to play with [Neymar] because he s a very smart player, and technically he s above everybody, he told Omnisport.

I think he s living an important moment, every year he s showing his quality, h…

Higuain announces retirement from ´toxic´ international duty with Argentina

Chelsea striker Gonzalo Higuain has brought an end to his Argentina career after announcing he has retired from international football.

Higuain played 75 times for his country, scoring 31 goals in the process, putting him sixth in their list of all-time leading scorers.

He played at three World Cups, including the 2018 edition, while he was also a part of the squads for the Copa America tournaments in 2011, 2015 and 2016.

However, for many his legacy on the international stage will be costly misses, as he was guilty of spurning fine opportunities in the finals of the 2014 World Cup and 2015 and 2016 Copa America editions.

Higuain eluded to that in his announcement, hitting back at those who branded Argentina failures for losing finals in three successive …

Atlanta United s inaugural MLS season will see them feature in the play-offs following their win over Philadelphia Union, while a Kaka double inspired Orlando City to a crushing victory.

Led by former Barcelona and Argentina head coach Gerardo Martino, in-form Atlanta made sure of a postseason berth with four regular-season fixtures remaining via a 3-0 victory on Wednesday.

Emery urges Ramsey to sign new contract

Arsenal manager Unai Emery has spoken about how he is very keen for Aaron Ramsey to sign a new contract with the club prior to the start of the 2018/19 season. The 27-year-old is about to enter the final year of his deal and many fans don t want to see him go the same way as Jack Wilshere by leaving the club. Ramsey has been an effective member of the Gunners first-team line-up for years now since first joining back in 2008.

Emery spoke about how Ramsey has the type of ability that I want regarding his talents on the pitch, and noted that he has the right kind of ambition. At one point it seemed as if Ramsey s Arsenal tenure could be coming to an end following extensive rumours regarding his future towards the back-end of last season, but now, all signs are pointing towards him…

Gotze joins PSV in coup for Dutch giants

Mario Gotze has joined Dutch giants PSV following his release by Borussia Dortmund.

The former Bayern Munich player, capped 63 times by Germany, has signed a two-year contract with the Eindhoven club.

Gotze, who was Germany s 2014 World Cup final match-winner, is now 28 and has struggled for consistent form and fitness in recent years.

That has been partly due to a debilitating metabolic condition; however, Gotze made 21 appearances for Dortmund in the 2019-20 season and said he had a lot of offers before agreeing to move to the Netherlands.

Attacking midfielder Gotze said of his switch: I kept on training and got myself fit for the new adventure. I am looking forward to joining my new team-mates for full training and preparing myself for the upcoming …

Rabiot not leaving Juventus?

According to a recent report from Goal, Juventus are not interested in the idea of letting Adrien Rabiot leave their ranks in the upcoming January transfer window. It’s been just six months since Rabiot officially made his way over to Turin on a free transfer, but in that time he’s been unable to lock down a place in the club’s starting XI.

Regardless of who is at fault for that, there’s no denying the fact that there is a great deal of interest for his signature – especially in the Premier League. Arsenal, Manchester United and Everton all want to try and complete the signing of Rabiot, but it’s not yet clear as to who is going to be the favourite in the race to get a deal over the finish line.

Before they can even start that race, though, Juve m…
